Community Engagement
Little Amal
During Fall 2023, Little Amal, the beloved 12-foot Syrian refugee girl puppet, made a journey across the United States from Boston to San Diego to raise awareness about the global refugee crisis. One of her last stops of the trip was with us at Chicano Park in Barrio Logan. Read all about it on our Little Amal event page.
City of San Diego Public Engagement
We’ve been working with the City of San Diego’s Planning Department to help develop more inclusive ways for city residents to learn about and provide input for upcoming projects. Here are some of the projects we’ve been involved with:
Build Better SD
A citywide initiative to enable the faster delivery of public spaces and buildings equitably and sustainably across San Diego. City Council adopted the initiative on Aug. 1, 2022.
Inclusive Public Engagement Guide
We helped launch the development of a City guide that will help to “promote inclusive public engagement and community participation on plans, programs, and policies, particularly for people who have historically experienced barriers to public participation.”
Mid-City Communities Plan Update
It’s been 25 years since the Community Plan for San Diego’s Mid-City area has been updated. We’re excited to be a part of supporting the residents of this diverse area to imagine the future for their neighborhoods.
Playback Theatre
Playback theatre is an improvised theatre form that allows communities to share real-life stories in a safe and brave space and then watch them enacted on the spot by an acting and music ensemble. This project is a partnership between the Chrysalis: Monarch Center for the Arts and Imagine.
Revive
Revive is a project created in 2021 for the Cajon Valley Union School District and local community members.
As a community we came together to connect and to educate each other on health. Healthy living is not just physical. It is our complete wellbeing as individuals and as families.
We Are In This Together
A 3-minute message of love and hope created in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic in collaboration with City Heights Community Members.
The Give Love Project
The Give Love Project, started in 2011 in New York City. What began as a spontaneous impulse to spread love and kindness one Valentine’s Day, has since become an East to West Coast movement. Learn more about our beginnings HERE.
Creators Jamie Roach and Catherine Hanna Schrock invite volunteers to gather together in public spaces bringing flash mob dances, gratitude songs and flowers to passersby. We hope to incite joy and connection with random and surprising acts of kindness.
And we hope that love and kindness are contagious. Give Love inspires communities to pass it on.
